Kenya’s High Court Orders Deletion of Worldcoin’s Data Collection Efforts
Kenya’s High Court has ruled against the Worldcoin Foundation, declaring its biometric data collection activities illegal. The court mandated the deletion of iris and facial data collected from Kenyan citizens within seven days, citing violations of the Kenya Data Protection Act of 2019. The ruling, issued on May 5, 2025, emphasized the lack of a valid Impact Assessment and improper obtainment of user consents through financial incentives.
Lady Justice Aburili Roselyne underscored the legal breaches, stating the foundation failed to comply with regulatory requirements. This decision marks a significant setback for Worldcoin’s operations in Kenya, reflecting growing scrutiny over data privacy in cryptocurrency ventures.
